Our Mission
HERD Foundation’s Mission is to provide equine-assisted services as a prevention program designed to empower individuals to achieve personal development through connected relationships between humans and horses.
Programs
HERD Foundation launched our programs as a proactive response to the growing need for services that promote social and emotional well-being among the military Veteran population of Palm Beach County, Florida. Consistent with our mission, our experiential equine-assisted learning programs for Veterans are designed to empower individuals to achieve personal development through connected relationships between humans and horses. Connection and belonging are the driving force behind everything we do at HERD Foundation, including our work with Veterans.
Freedom Patch I
The Freedom Patch I Program (FP I) serves Veterans who currently live at home and are referred to HERD Foundation by the Veterans Administrative Medical Center (VAMC). This program is an 8-week introductory segment that teaches horsemanship skills while also promoting a sense of connection and belonging. (read more)
Freedom Patch II
The Freedom Patch II Program (FP II) serves Veteran participants who are recent graduates of the Freedom Patch I program. This 8-week program naturally expands on the knowledge gained in FP I, allowing participants to continue to practices the principles and skills necessary for building relationships and meaningful connection. Domiciliary Program
The Domiciliary (DOM) Program serves Veterans who are enrolled in a 45-day residential treatment program at the West Palm Beach VAMC. Through interactions with our equine partners, this 4-week program provides an opportunity for Veterans to learn the skills that promote a successful return to community-based living. (read more)
